The super important (but not so exciting) legal stuff.
We want to make sure your fundraising is safe and legal. Before you get started, make sure you read the following and follow up with anything that applies to your event:
Lotteries
There are strict laws in place that you'll need to abide by if you're planning to organise a raffle. Please take a look at the Gambling Commision's Organising Small Lotteries document to make sure it's legal.Permissions
Fundraisers and organisations planning an event must ensure that any required permissions or licences are obtained from the local authority or other relevant bodies. If you're not sure, just ask!
Insurance
Health and safety
Fundraisers must carry out a risk assessment where it is reasonable to do so before undertaking an event of any size. If working with a third party or within a company, check who is responsible for this. Download our risk assessment form.
Food and Alcohol
Please take great care when handling food and work to basic rules for safe preparation, storage, display and cooking. If you are selling/providing alcohol in public, the relevant licences/permissions may be in needed and age limits must be adhered to.
Collections
Always collect cash in a secure container e.g. a sealed tin, buckets or a secure cash box for change. Please do not collect money door to door; this is illegal without a licence. Please don't shake the bucket as this will annoy passers by.
Children and Fundraising
if you are under the age of 18 please make sure that you have written consent from a parent or guardian to fundraise for Missing People.
